What 2 of Me reads, where it keeps it, and what it never does with it. Last updated September 22, 2026.

Who we are

2 of Me is made by Don't Be Evil, Inc., a Delaware public benefit corporation. Questions about this policy go to sam@get2ofme.com.

What we read, and why

2 of Me works on the accounts you connect, and only those. When you connect a Google account, we start with read-only access to Gmail and Google Calendar: enough to read your mail and your meetings so the delegations you turn on can work for you, such as telling you when a message genuinely needs you.

Some delegations need to do more than read. We ask for those permissions one at a time, on the page where that work happens, and only if you turn it on. There are three:

Write drafts. A reply waits in its thread for you to read and send. We never send it.

Label and archive. Your inbox gets sorted: what needs you keeps its place with a label, and the rest is archived. Archived, never deleted, so it stays in All Mail and in search.

Put a meeting on your calendar. When someone books a time through your link, that meeting is written to your calendar.

Those three are the only things we ever write. We never send an email from your account, and we never delete anything.

When you turn on the unsubscribe delegation, we use the unsubscribe line the sender put in their own email to ask them to stop, either by the one-click request their header offers or by opening their page. When their only unsubscribe line is an email address, we hand it to you to send, because we never send from your Gmail.

The Mac companion reads iMessage, WhatsApp, LinkedIn messages, Slack and Mail.app on your own computer. That data stays on your Mac unless you connect the Mac to your hosted account.

Where it lives

What we read is written into your own private notebook, a folder of plain text files that belongs to your account alone, on servers hosted by Railway in the United States. Your Google access token is encrypted before it is stored. Each account's data is separate from every other account's.

When a routine judges a message, a short excerpt of the messages that need judging is sent to an AI model through OpenRouter, routed only to providers that do not store or train on the request. We do not use your data to train any model.

The Chrome extension

The 2ofMe extension puts a row of tabs at the top of Gmail, one for each search you make. It works with or without a 2 of Me account.

What stays in your browser. Your tabs, and the searches behind them, are kept in your browser's own storage. The number on each tab comes from Gmail itself, asked from inside the Gmail page you already have open. None of this is sent to us.

What it reads. It reads which Gmail address is open, from the page title, so each of your accounts gets its own tabs. To show each tab's count, it reads Gmail's own reply inside the Gmail page and keeps only the number. Your messages never leave that page.

What it sends to us. It asks 2 of Me whether you are signed in, without saying who you are. If you are not signed in, that is all, and nothing about you leaves your browser. If you are, 2 of Me answers with the Gmail addresses on your account and the tabs your inbox routine already uses, and the extension matches them in your browser. Your Gmail address is sent to us in one case only: when you open the extension's settings page on an address that is already connected to your account, to list its Gmail labels so you can turn one into a tab.

Permissions. It runs only on mail.google.com and app.get2ofme.com, and asks for no other permission than storage.

The use of information received through the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your control. Remove the extension from your browser and all of this stops.

What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not show it to anyone at Don't Be Evil except to fix a problem you asked us to fix. We do not use your Google data for advertising, for building profiles of you, or for any purpose other than the features you turned on.

2 of Me's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your control

You can disconnect any account on the Integrations page at any time; that revokes our access with Google and stops all reading. You can also remove access from your Google account permissions. To delete your notebook and your account, write to sam@get2ofme.com and it is gone within seven days.

Texts

If you give us your phone number, we text you a sign-in code, the alerts from the delegations you turn on, and answers to your replies. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop, START to resume, HELP for help.

All the sharing described above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Changes

When this policy changes we update the date at the top and, for anything that matters, tell you by email or text.
