Triage your LinkedIn connection requests

Know who wants to connect, and why you might want to accept.

I review incoming requests and the profile information available to me, then bring you a recommendation based on who you want in your network.

Write your connection runbook

A reason to connect, beside each request.

See the relevant context before you decide.

Illustrative requests · Recommendations for review
Recommend accepting · Matches your interests

Priya runs operations at a growing company.

You’ve said you’d like to meet more operators. Her note asks to compare approaches to building a team.

Needs your judgment · Little context

Chris sent a request without a note.

Their profile gives me too little information to explain why they want to connect.

Recommend passing · Outside your preferences

Drew’s request offers outsourced prospecting.

You’ve said you don’t want to connect for sales offers in this category.

I check the reason, not just the job title.

I compare each request with your preferences and explain what supports the recommendation.

Who are they?

I pull out the relevant role, company and professional background from the information available.

Why connect?

I look at their note and any context I have about how you know each other.

Does it fit your network?

I compare that context with the people you want to meet. When there’s too little to go on, I bring the uncertainty to you.

A useful connection means something different to everyone.

You might keep LinkedIn for people you’ve met, welcome peers in your field or use it to meet potential customers.

I learn from the preferences you share and your feedback on recommendations.

For example, people you haven’t met

“Do you welcome requests from people in your field, or would you rather connect after you’ve met or exchanged messages?”

You choose when I recommend and when I act.

We agree on which requests you want to review yourself.

Recommend

I bring you a suggested decision with the reason behind it.

Handle agreed cases

You choose whether I can accept or decline requests that clearly match rules you’ve approved.

Ask about the exceptions

Requests with missing context or a judgment call come to you.

A connection is the start of a relationship.

If someone’s invitation includes a question, I make that visible alongside the request so it doesn’t get lost in the decision to connect.

Messages from your connections have their own triage. See LinkedIn DM triage →
