Block time for deep work and protect it

Give demanding work a place in your week.

I reserve time for the work that needs your concentration and use your preferences to protect it when meeting requests arrive.

Time for the work behind the deadline.

Illustrative example

Keep Wednesday morning for the board memo.

The memo is due Friday. You’ve asked for two uninterrupted hours in the morning, so I reserve 9–11 before the rest of the week fills up.

I plan around the work you need to do.

What needs focus?

I ask which work deserves uninterrupted time and how much time you want to reserve.

When do you work best?

I look for a stretch that fits your energy, deadline and existing commitments.

What can interrupt it?

I apply the exceptions you’ve set when someone asks for that time. If a decision falls outside those rules, I ask.

Protected means what you want it to mean.

You may want mornings kept clear, a few longer blocks each week or time reserved around a specific deadline. I ask what works for you.

One question I might ask

“Should these blocks stay fixed, or can I move them within the week if I preserve the same uninterrupted time?”

When plans change, keep the work in view.

If a focus block needs to move, I help find another suitable stretch. You decide the tradeoff when the calendar can’t accommodate both the meeting and the work.
